essenscia comprises about 20 trade sections which represent and promote interests specific to their sector of activities, including the following: base organic and mineral chemicals and fertilisers; chemical processes (paints, varnishes, printing inks, wood preservatives); pharmaceutical and veterinary products; oils and fats, soaps, detergents, cosmetics, hygienic products and toiletries; miscellaneous products for industry, agriculture and horticulture); rubber and plastic processing; biotechnology; waste collection, processing and recycling; chemical engineering; research, analytical and test laboratories.

Issues of common interest that fall within the competence of regional and community authorities are dealt with by three regional sections, namely essenscia Brussels, essenscia Flanders and essenscia Wallonia.

essenscia represents the sector and its member companies in dozens of associations nationally and internationally. It is engaged in an ongoing, frank and open dialogue with all stakeholders to improve social acceptance of the industry and increase recognition of its valuable role.
